Maye’s 39.5: A Lone Bright Spot in Phishing’s Bleak Tide
Drake Maye’s Week 5 explosion can’t hide Phishing for Touchdowns’ 1‑4 slump, but it does give Ryan J. a glimmer of hope for a comeback.
Drake Maye lit up the scoreboard with a 39.5‑point outing, the highest single‑player total in the league this season.
That performance alone accounted for more than 6% of Phishing’s total 615.2 points, proving the quarterback can still deliver fireworks even when the rest of the roster sputters.
Yet the team’s other starters—Parker Washington’s 30.4, Kyren Williams’ 19.6 and Jonathan Taylor’s modest 11.2—combined for just 61.2 points, leaving the squad far behind the 126.4 points needed to win last week.
Ryan J.’s decision to keep Maye in the starting slot for Week 6, now backed by Pat Freiermuth’s addition, shows he’s banking on that spark to turn the tide, but the odds remain slim.
If Maye can replicate his breakout, Phishing could climb out of the basement; otherwise, the 1‑4 record will likely linger as the league’s most forlorn storyline.
